Violet Capri - It’s Complicated (Album)

The women really are taking over & it’s a beautiful sight to see & Violet may be that next best thing to breakthrough. The sultry songstress has been releasing singles leading up to her latest album, seven goddess-like tracks, exploring the things that make her so complicated. She has too many “Options,” for starters, a bittersweet collaboration with Nayome, which finds the two ladies trying to figure out what option is the best for them moving forward.

It’s great to get a full-on substantial R&B project cause some of the biggest names in R&B never seem to deliver us that. They always explore other genres, but she keeps it simple with tracks like the reflective “Vibin’,” which we all wanna do; nobody wants to deal with daily life stresses. We wanna have a good time to forget about all of our struggles or the sedating textures of “Sugar,” which explores a sort of addiction we all bare. Be it the Neo-soul of “Struck,” the modernity trap esque rhythms of “Gemini,” a collaboration with Jidé, which finds her trying her damndest to push this person out of her life, for the best, of course.

Whereas “G.T.F.O.” demands that more sternly, I’m sure it’s hard for women to stick through all the bullshit we men tend to put them through; she was speaking to men like me directly, unfortunately. Still, I’m trying to work through it, Violet; thanks for putting men like me in our place as if my girl hasn’t already done so. Whatever you “Choose” to do in life, it’s up to us to support any decision you make for the betterment of yourself. If we value you the way we claim to, 5 stars out 5 for this powerfully concise debut & if you’re a man trying to figure out what women want, heed this project & do better.
