lilbootycall - Jesus Said Run It Back (Album)
On Lil Booty Call's long awaited debut, he demands to not fall to the wayside.
No, unfortunately/potentially for some long time fans of his, there is no "Sailor Moon" sequel (not necessary) but, what we do get is a glimpse into his real life and true emotions in a much more polished fashion.
Call utilizes the few guest appearances perfectly whether it be Juicy J sounding at home over the jazzy, subdued bounce of "18K", he & Goldlink overdosing on "Prescriptions" or he, Cuco & Kwe$t imagining the perfect date with Miss Right. ("777")
Even then, these big name artists don't overshadow the true star here and that's Call, from sounding hell bent for leather on ("Bandaid") to the mixed emotions on the self deprecating ("Hate Me") to tackling mental health issues on ("666") - Love that this is really a song on an album called "Jesus Said Run It Back" but it only emphasizes the contradictory album title cause this is no Gospel album and that's fine cause contradiction is only human.
We get compartmentalized feelings that no matter how hard he tries to forget them, remain on "When It Gets Cold", familial longing but from a distance on (“I Don’t”) and lastly, hope on ("Die No More").
Lil Booty Call's debut is an artistic portrait on self acceptance, one that'll surely resonate with those who feel alone, you're not.
