Hidden Gems: Tommy Gold

Who is TOMMY GOLD???

As I cleaned my room and turned my ps4 on and threw on some random jams a voice, I wasn’t familiar with started to play and instantly had me hooked with his visuals and catchy hooks and wordplay. Still, it gave me a nostalgic feeling with a new school sound and felt after bing watching every one of his videos on YouTube. I instantly went to Apple Music. I downloaded every project, but one project stuck out the most was “Heron.” From cover art to song title to wordplay, Tommy put together a masterpiece, and I’m glad I was able to stumble upon it.

After digging deeper into the archives of Tommy I stumbled across Magnolia. When I heard fish scales for the first time and instantly became one of my favorite tracks with the simple beat and Tommy saying in the first line “if Jesus was a plug I ask him for an eight of faith” then going in bar for bar with movie references and deeper bar meanings that went over my head the first listen but had me revisiting the song and finding new references and double entendres. That seems to be an essential thing with Tommy giving you bars that at surface level are great, but when you listen and dig deeper, they provide the songs with a whole new meaning.
