Reek & Sage - At a Time Like This (EP)

San Antonio’s favorite duo, since Tim Duncan & David Robinson, are back with a new project right on the holiest of days for cannabis connoisseurs all around. Reek & Sage emerge from beyond the trees to supply us with a project titled, “At A Time Like This,” with the title reflecting the circumstances we're dealing with due to the COVID-19 pandemic. They offer a sure sign of relief by providing melodic sounds matched with feel-good components to let us know they care about the well being of their listeners.

I want to start by complementing the artists and producers behind the tracks. First up is Big Beautiful Williams, who is a man of many talents and whom I believe creates the atmosphere of the project with his good nature and soulful presence. Second are the features provided by Malcolm Whitelow, Kue, and Spec. They all deliver an impressive array of raps that become a strong point when first listening to the project and continue to be a highlight throughout the many plays after. Next is the producers of Kendall & the Loners + Sayjackson who always seems to amaze me with the vigorous nature of flooding out the emotions behind the boards to bring out a grand spectacle of joyous moods. Last but not least, the diabolical combo Reek & Sage. The two cooked up a formula years ago that is still going strong today with embedding the dynamic cadence they built on a personal level that transcribes into their musical craft. The intro titled, “Get Back Up,” begins with the gentle tone of Big Beautiful Williams, before Reek detonates a strong aura of raps that resonates off his anchoring feature, Malcolm Whitelow, which completes the sterling mark. Throughout other tracks such as, “Nowadays” and “Lonesum,” you get the epitome of the project sewed up in a neat fashion that is inducing a characteristic motion that works perfectly behind the message of the EP. It’s not only the music telling the story but the titles as well, which are defined greatly by Sage’s production to take it one step further.

The energy on this tape is incomparable with anything currently out and is another chapter in the Reek & Sage saga that I’m sure will continue forever. The balance they bring out each other is outer-worldly. They are the faces of great content in San Antonio, and the shining examples of why they need to be heard throughout the world.
