San Lorenzo - San Lorenzo (EP)
San Antonio Native San Lorenzo drops off a collection of smooth, R&B laced joints, kind of an amalgamation of many different things, different sounds that is, all wrapped up neatly in a cool head trip of an extended play.
The lullabied autotune of “Bad” find Lorenzo fending off the negativity, “Dipout” sounds like you’re on dips, an out of body experience as he too tries to escape a certain side of him, pleading for understanding, natural human questioning of oneself & the things surrounding him on a daily basis.
Things switch up on the tiptoeing “I Was Given This” find him slipping further and further down into his own sense of consciousness then he turns the questioning onto his partner, the substances “WHATCHUMEAN” & then confesses that he can’t help but love them, regardless of the consequences and tolls they’ve taken on him mentally & physically.
San caps off this journey from egery & back on the slow burning outro “Savor Me”, which is mostly ambient acoustics with shoegazey trip hop blips & blaps, reminiscent of an important album in the shoegaze genre, at least for me the elixir induced soundscapes remind me of “Pygmalion” from Slowdive.
All in all, this is pain that’s self inflicted, artistically torturing & musically arresting, San pulls you down with him, it gets ugly but even San can find the beauty in his surroundings & hopefully peace with his choices.
